Something to Distract from the Pain

These baseball playoffs have been really rough on Chicago Sports fans. For the past two days I have been too distressed to really write anything sensical or coherent, especially after the White Sox left 35 runners on base over the last two games. So I figure why not post about someone who has it worse than me?

Almost every sports fan that I am friendly with does fantasy sports. And we all know the different kinds of fantasy football players. There's the guy who never sets his roster and the guy who will always offers you rip-off trade proposals. Then there's the guy who takes fantasy football wayyyyyyyyyy to serious. This guy does things like updating you about various player's off-season workouts in June and asking you if think it affects their draft position. This is a guy you want him in because you don't want to have an odd number of players but really nobody wants to deal with his shit.

Well, Bill Simmons linked to an article about a "takes-fantasy-football-to-seriously-guy" who went over the edge. The headline said, " Upset fantasy football player arrested for allegedly threatning to kill roommate" Usually, I don't laugh out loud at stories about death threats but when I read this first paragraph, I almost shit myself laughing:

A 35-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after he allegedly became upset over points in his Fantasy Football league and threatened to kill his roommate.

I immediately sent the article to everyone in my office who is in our fantasy football league and of course I directed the the note in the e-mail to the fantasy owner who takes it to seriously. In no time responses came flying from everyone, comments like, "Isn't that your brother?" and " I bet he thought defense should get return touchdowns too!"

So as bad as it feels to be a Chicago baseball fan, at least your not in jail over fantasy football.

Actually, I'm posting this from jail. The guys in here all take it pretty seriously, we don't really have anything else to do.
