Suspensions were officially handed out today for the fracas that occurred at this past weekend's Sox-Royals game. Former White Sock Miguel Olivo, will miss 5 games and Zack Grienke will miss a start. Royals manger Trey Hillman got 1 game and our beloved Oswaldo got set back 2 games.
There are two things that caught my attention when I heard of these suspensions. The first is that DJ Carrasco did not get punished. The second is that Ozzie got 2 games. How can you punish the manager when Carrasco got no punishment and Greinke got a start? They both threw at batters only one occurred before a warning and one occurred after. So why does it make sense for MLB to take Ozzie out of two games when he ordered a beanball before the warning?
In my humble opinion, #13 isn't getting suspended for his actions during the game but rather his comments after. When asked if Carrasco's pitches were order by him, Guillen said, “I’ve hit people before on purpose, because that’s my job. Protect my players." He went on to say, “When Teahen bunts up by six runs, I didn’t even hit him. I should’ve."
It looks like MLB does not seem to appreciate Ozzie's consistent outburts to the Media. He may have even broken an unwritten code of not metnioning unethical tactics. In this case he is getting singled out for his comments. If you want punish someone for what they said to the reporters post-game than give him a fine. To make him miss 2 games and penalize the whole team is uncalled for.
